Joe Browns.

A few weeks ago I was contacted by a clothing company who wanted to gift me some items in exchange for a blog post. Of course as with anything I checked out the store first, I have had to turn some companies down when it comes to gifting, as if I genuinely don’t like the clothes I can’t accept them and I feel inauthentic. So to my delight there were some items I really loved, the website has a cool laid back vibe and I think that there is definitely something for everyone. I chose a really cool pair of flat sandals adorned with pompoms that are super bright and really gorgeous for summer, next I chose a beautiful blouse with a bird print on, which looks great teamed with skinny jeans and I am equally looking forward to wearing it on my holidays with denim cut offs or as a cover up on the beach, the last item I chose was a really lovely necklace which is really bohemian and has that hippie style I love. The price range is super affordable and the quality of the items is great, so in all I am a very happy bunny (What girl isn’t at the prospect of free clothes!) The bag I styled the blouse with is from my collection I am selling, you can email me for more details (Shameless plug there for myself!!) I hope you like the items and if you want to check out the website it is

Currently listening to Pharrell Williams new album Girl, favourite one (Its the rudest but I love the beat!) Gush!

The best wake up call

Recently there has been a massive awakening to the powers of juicing, which is fantastic to see, as the benefits to our health our simply wonderous. I have been juicing  for around ten years, It was actually my dad who bought me my first juicer and I found it the most effective way to give my then two year old daughter her daily intake (and much more) of nutrients. As a parent, I think, the main gift you can give your Children is, the most optimum nutrition you can, as a solid ground for their growth, development, energy and the prevention of disease to name a few! Also educating them on how important a good diet is puts them in good stead for when they’re out of your clutches and fly the nest…. (Although I can see myself as that scary stalker kind of mum who follows them to Uni and gate crashes night outs, no escaping little guys!) At the moment my preferred juicer is the Philips ‘Avance’ it’s super easy to use and clean, Which as any fellow juicer will tell you the cleaning is one pain in the ass! Also the ‘Juice Master’ Jason Vale, Who’s book I cannot recommend enough, uses the Philips line of juicers. The beauty of juicing is that anything goes, there are some really amazing recipes in Jason’s book, from combatting colds and flu, eczema, losing weight and (the most important) the hangover helper! Mostly I just try to pack as many veggies in as I can, adding fruit for some natural sweetness. I personally prefer juices to smoothie’s as I like the consistency of the juice as opposed to the thickness of a smoothie, of course you can combine the two a pineapple, mango, cucumber and apple juice whizzed up in the blender with some ice and almond milk is delicious. Since reading about the Japanese recommended daily intake of fruit and vegetables being 17 compared to the UK’s 5, I have been trying to aim for that, considering Japan has one of the healthiest nations and the longest life expectancy it is definitely worth taking heed. Buying a juicer and getting into the habit of making one for you and your family every morning is the best investment you will ever make, the life giving energy, pure and natural liquid that flows inside every fruit and vegetable is what needs to pass our lips every single day, beauty definitely comes from within and I can guarantee you will see a difference in your skin, hair, nails and over all well being from starting this juice discovery. Top your morning juice with some chia seeds and you will be a little ball of pure health 🙂

My homegirl

As I’ve said before how I dress my Children is definitely a reflection of me and although I try not to totally supress their own creative style (reverse psychology is the key!) I do try to steer them in the right direction when choosing their outfits…. the right direction being Mummy’s choice! I joke of course, but I am quite lucky as I seem to have two stylish off springs, especially my daughter who has a great eye for fashion. This simple little outfit is great for this transitional/tween age that she is at now and although we both prefer more muted tones the red tights, with the black and white boucle coat, give it a much needed ‘pop’ of colour. Its an amazing age she is at now, as she really enjoys shopping and picking her own outfits, I cherish our girly days together and watching her grow in to a delightful little lady. I’m sure the mood swings will kick in soon though, she’s thirteen in April…. I swear this is when I will probably end up running away! I am conscience of always drumming it into her that physicality is not everything also, as society is so focused on appearance, I want her to be confident that her personality, brain and sense of humour are just as important, I probably drive her crazy, but I never want her to think she has to be a superficial bimbo to ‘fit in’. Anyway (rant over) I love her hair just left flowing naturally and it looks super cute with the simple twists to the side. I try to buy mostly clothes I can mix and match for all of us, so this is a look that can easily be recreated. Currently listening to Route 94 feat Jess Glynne ‘My love’ So so good! Happy Wednesday guys…. Fridays on it’s way, hang in there 😉

Well hello again…

So It’s been a while, so long that I actually feel like a kind of fraud writing this, but alas theladyisnotramp is back in action! Life has been pretty hectic lately and due to some personal issues my blog has took a nose dive. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and new year, I would like to wish you all a very prosperous 2014 filled with love and light (even though it’s almost February, I guess I’m a little late to the party!) This is a simple outfit I wore to go for a lunch with the girls, the trousers are part of a suit I bought from Zara, Which looks great together but I love mixing it up also. The coat is vintage, it is my favourite fabric boucle, it has that Chanel esque vibe about it. Teamed with a simple black jumper and an effortless pony tail this is the perfect luncheon outfit. Currently obsessing over Sam Smith’s new song ‘Money on my mind’ and Route 94 ‘My love’ my song’s of the week. Hope you all have a great Friday, it feels good to be back 🙂

An inch of skin

Admittedly I’m not really a ‘sexy’ (Hate that word, makes me shudder) kind of dresser (or person for that matter), I never dress for men or really show a whole lot of skin. The whole thing just makes me uncomfortable, I much prefer leaving a little to the imagination. However as much as it pains me to say it, over the knee boots are quite overtly sexual. Alas I do love them though, but worn in the right way they can still look classy. The key is to cover everything else up, there’s nothing worse than boobs, bum, bingo wings, back….. trying to think of another B for legs… all hanging out, you get the picture. You want to say ‘You can look but you can’t touch’ not ‘Please come and spend the night with me, I’m £10 an hour’. I wore this outfit last Saturday for a meal at Mal Maison Liverpool, with my gal pals. The food and wine where delicious, as was the company, my cheeks where hurting we laughed so much. My mum recently visited Florence in Italy and picked up this gorgeous skirt from Zara for me and the necklace was also a gift from her (isn’t she the best!). It’s incredibly special as it’s vintage and made from Aurora borealis stones which means ‘Northern lights’ It is inspired by the Northern Lights as it has a special iridescent finish that shines with many colours. These pieces are very rare and was invented in the 1950’s by the Swarovski company with Christian Dior. I love how dainty it is, it is the perfect complement to any outfit. With this outfit I’ve also broke the rule that navy and black should never be paired together, I personally think this is a load of nonsense as the two colours look beautiful together and super chic. Hope you guys are enjoying your Saturday, have a great weekend 🙂

October inspiration!

How stunning is the UK in the Autumn! It is without a doubt the prettiest time of year in our country, the autumnal colours are so beautiful and I find myself inspired everywhere I look. I’m pretty sad to see October come to an end, its been a lovely month, as was September where we celebrated my beautiful mum turning Fifty, I have uploaded some of the pics from the family get together I organised for her, in the beautiful DeliSabrosa, Ormskirk. Next up is my Sonny’s birthday the beginning of November, then before we know it Christmas is upon us! I’m one of those annoying people who want to put my Christmas tree up in May I love Christmas so much. In our family we’re all very festive and do tend to go a tad over the top at times, any excuse for a celebration. So anyway I thought I would share with you guys some of the photo’s I have captured over the past two months as you all know I am snap happy. Enjoy!

Guest Blogger

Today on the blog, I have my first ‘Guest blogger’. I was recently contacted by an author and independent green contractor from the USA, to feature a blog on environmentally responsible tourism as it’s applied in modern day travel and stay. I thought this would be of interest to my readers, as it is something I am interested in learning more about also. Just doing my part on spreading awareness about looking after this gorgeous planet we call Mother nature. I shall hand you over to Sam Marquait, his book is called Fair Marquait Value, definitely worth checking out.

Sustainability just around the corner

Building and living green should be a priority for all people in today’s world.  After all, unless we start consciously living and acting in a sustainable manner, many of the things we hold dear will disappear within the next few generations. This is why, as a contractor with experience building green, corporations always impress me and organizations that act locally and globally to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

The Go Green Initiative is one example of this belief in action. They focus a significant amount of energy on conservation training to promote a culture of conserving our natural resources. To accomplish this they go into businesses as well as community centers and schools, believing that in addition to teaching children the value of conservation it is not too late to train adults to change their ways as well.

Sometimes it takes a village, or an entire city, to work together to make positive environmental change. The city of San Francisco proved this to be possible by partnering with ESRI to reduce their greenhouse emissions throughout their city fleet. By using software to map the most efficient routes and keep drivers aware of traffic delays and construction zones, they plan to reduce the carbon footprint and gas usage by up to twenty percent a year.

As far as corporations go, the Marriott hotel chain made a positive step towards helping the planet with their new key card policies. The chain, which has switched to green key cards made of corn by-products that are biodegradable, will save upwards of five hundred pounds of plastic being thrown into landfills per hotel with their new key cards. This equals out to over sixty-six tons of plastic per year not being thrown out by the chain and guests. While this may seem like a small gesture overall, it will likely prompt other hotels to follow their lead.

Likewise, the Palazzo Hotel in Las Vegas has stood out as the industry leader in green construction and innovation, so much so that it has been named the “Most Eco Friendly Hotel in America.” They boast everything from solar panels to reduce heating costs and wasting of electricity, but also a reusable waste system. This LEED certified hotel focused on introducing energy efficient appliances, light fixtures, and design into their plans, making it easy to see why they are leading the way in eco tourist destinations.

Conservation is possible in today’s world, and these groups and enterprises make it abundantly clear that it is possible to change the way people act and think in a positive way. My hope is that this trend continues and it seems as though it will. Especially with the various programs and the new Las Vegas hotels in particular continuing to innovate the industry. Other businesses have the opportunity to mimic the “green blueprint” of others.
